Grounded, but Still Lost

Grounded, but Still Lost

I have been thinking long and hard about what this particular site will be as I move forward in my digital life and I have opened this post page at least a dozen times without being able to even begin to type anything.  The words just wouldn’t come.  I have this sense that my life is in this constant state of flux right now and while I am able to put focus towards most aspects of my existence I find myself struggling to make any real attempt at building out the new version of this site, its purpose and its future. I feel myself at times spinning out of control when it comes to organizing my thoughts so that I can really put some effort into building this out. I know that I should dive back in and reconnect the images and content and do a massive clean up of broken links to restore this site to its former glory. It needs a redesign too so maybe it is just the amount of effort that it will take to reconstruct … Read more

Upgrading Krispy's Tech

Upgrading Krispy's Tech

Here we are into April already and I sit here plotting the upgrades in my life as I always seem to do this time of the year.  So far this year I have done a couple upgrades already with a new phone (upgraded my LG G3 to the new Huawei Nova Plus) and a new Tablet.  The phone upgrade was really because it was time, I did an early upgrade as the battery on my G3 was more than a little flakey.  The tablet though…may seem like a strange choice in a world that is constantly looking to be bigger and better as I got myself a diminutive Acer Iconia One Android Tablet that is not much bigger than my phone…but acts primarily as a ebook reader. In the coming weeks and months though, I am really looking at doing a monster upgrade of the tech and services that I am connected to. The first upgrade will be happening in a couple of weeks with a massive step up to a new ISP (Internet Service Provider) with some monster upgrades … Read more

Technology Freeing Us from Bonds – Or Making Us All Slaves

Technology Freeing Us from Bonds – Or Making Us All Slaves

It is funny how technology has the ability to both connect us to each other in new and amazing ways and at the same time isolate us and make each and everyone of us who embraces the world of technology beholden to the whims and the changes that it provides. The health issues that I have been going through have made me really think about what today and tomorrow is likely to bring to me and to my future and I wonder if the world of technology that I have fallen head over heels for has made my life easier or if it has made me more dependent on it. For me, my love affair with technology really started back when I was a young lad when my parents decided to bring home a Commodore Vic20.  It enabled me to start mucking about with programming and let me see the fruits of my labors you see, you could purchase programming magazines and enter the coding and then see the output on the screen before you.  It was amazing how, in … Read more

Preparing for a Fresh Start

Preparing for a Fresh Start

As I sit here this morning, enjoying another cup of coffee and reflect back on what I have done with my life in the past 42 years I really don’t have many regrets, although the ones that I do have are pretty big.  My life path has changed a few times over those years but I am, for the most part happy with where I sit today. Later this morning I head off on an interview.  I don’t know much about the company or its product and I know that the job itself will be relatively hum drum but considering the health issues that I have been battling with, right now a pay check is what I need, not a life changing career that will have be being an international globe trotting superstar. In the past, I have worked really hard to be the best in what ever profession I was in that itself has caused me a lot of stress and had me setting expectations upon myself that were not only difficult to live up to, but also set … Read more

Depression and Anxiety Mixed with Pain

Depression and Anxiety Mixed with Pain

It has been a rough ride for me for the past several months.  From a 4 month head ache, to an abscessed tooth to a flare up of my Psoriasis I have been left with an immutable amount of confusion and frustration over the current state of my life.  All of this combined with a job that saw me making less and less despite doing and accomplishing more and more, the rabbit hole that is my Anxiety came full force and drove me deep into the underground that I sometimes find myself in. It was my personal battle with Anxiety that has had me in and out of jobs and unfortunately there does not seem to be a real solution to “getting better”, and when you mix in the amount of real pain that I am in EVERY DAY it leaves me wondering what good am I doing for anyone. Then I take a step back and realize that I am not the only one going through these challenges, and I am definitely not the worst off out there, but … Read more

The Se7en Day Layover

The Se7en Day Layover

Today will be my last post for a week.  As it turns out the best laid plans of mice and men do not always allow for a smooth transition but I am ok with it.  My new home (moving out into the world Solo) on Sunday and I still have a ton of things to do so I am going to take tomorrow and Sunday off from my morning cathartic outlet and get everything ready for moving day.  I will be without the Interwebz (well not totally I will still have my phone) for a week and I am going to take this little break to focus in on a solid posting schedule and rebuild my other homes on the Interwebz as I am no longer a Sales Guy. What is truly interesting is that during this week without broadband connectivity to the outside world I will have the opportunity to really dive into things beyond Facebook Posts, Blogs and Online Games.  I will be able to reconnect with me and my daughter (while she is over for her time … Read more

What is in a Brand?

What is in a Brand?

Brands come and go, there is an ebb and flow to the consumer confidence and in the ability of a company or individual to influence and command…but what is it about a brand like Google, Apple, MacDonald’s or AT&T that has them command the top values in the world?  How can individuals or small businesses take the $158 Million Dollar Brand Value of Google and translate it to themselves? When I was in the heart of building my Personal Brand and focused on nothing but my career as a Sales Guy I did a lot of studying on what goes into building a Personal Brand and how to communicate value like the big guys (without a massive marketing budget or a team of professionals to support me). For every person, corporation or product…success did not come over night.  It did not come without hard work and an application of a strategy that took them from zero to hero…and very few brands have been able to maintain success for ever.  Probably one of the few companies that have continued on a … Read more

New Content Coming

New Content Coming

Usually on Friday’s I will dive into the wonderful world of Free Apps but I thought that I would share a new concept coming to Krispy’s Bytes.  The transition from being a Technical IT Sales Specialist into the slower paced and far more rewarding world of Automotive Customer Service has left me with a lot of time to think about what I want this site to become. Don’t get me wrong…I love Technology and will never stray far from that core concept but over the past few years I have dreamed of getting into some interesting “Maker” projects as can be found over at Instructables.com and with me moving into my own place and not having anyone but myself to tell me I can or can’t do something…I figured what a perfect way to showcase my assumed mad skills as a designer/builder of functional stuff for my new place. You see, first and foremost I am a cheap bastard at heart so this site has always appealed to me because it empowers people to not only repurpose existing “junk” into … Read more

Browser Battle 2014

Most of my life is now spent inside of a browser.  No seriously. Between work, blogging and surfing the web, I spend no less than 10-15 hours in front of some sort of screen and for the most part, this involves having a web browser open and doing something with the wonders of the Interwebz.  It would seem that I am not alone.  When I got on the internet in the late 90s I was some what unique with less than 300 Million total internet users in the world…the early Geeks were few and far between and there really wasn’t much to see out there. Back in the day, I used mostly Internet Explorer…and at the time…it was all good but then I met Netscape (Navigator and Communicator) and well my world changed.  I started to learn how to build web pages and started to understand that there was a world out side of Microsoft. Fast forward to 2014 and I split my Internet time between IE (at work – it is a requirement) and Google Chrome (on all my … Read more

Personal Innovation – A Buzz Word or a Reality?

Personal Innovation – A Buzz Word or a Reality?

It doesn’t matter what job you do or what your business produces, sells or consults on, unless you have been under a rock for the past couple of years I am sure you have heard some one or read some where that Innovation is the new Black! But if Innovation in Business is the “Next Big Thing” and “Everyone is Doing It” then how can you differentiate yourself?  Rather than looking at business strategies that are meant to transform a sluggish business in an economy that may very well take another 5 years to recover…I figured I would take a look at personal innovation and how the things that you do personally and professionally can be used to both innovate your life but also your career. Over at VuVan.com there is a great definition of Personal Innovation: Personal Innovation is about innovating yourself and making yourself better at whatever it is you do.  If you have customers, and they are currently happy, take it to the next level and just wow them with more, if you think you have reached … Read more
