A Long Look at Technology and My Life

Technology has had an hold on me for a long time, ever since I had the pleasure of sitting in a computer lab during my days of high school but it did not take a hold of me until much later in my life when everything I did started to revolve around the love hate relationship that I have with computers and devices.  The way that solving a problem by applying logic and code is something that has for a very long time taken me down some very different paths than what my life I thought I would live would be. I am the person that employers, friends and family turn to when they are having a “tech dilemma” and this has for a very long time intrigued me but only recently has technology made my life both more fulfilling and more difficult.  For many years I saw my love affair with the latest kit and language or process was a benefit but then came a new stage in my life. The world that I had lived in, was not … Read more

Happy Birthday to Krispy's Rants/i am krispy

Four years ago this week I ventured forth and started to put the thoughts, rants and meanderings out there for the world to see.  4 years ago I really didn’t think that anyone at any point would give this attempt at connecting a second glance but through the process I have seen this site flourish and at times become a realization of a dream of mine. Writing is not something that comes easy, nor does the discipline of committing the time to doing it right.  The past few months have been a challenge for me both physically and emotionally and my commitment as Wordsmith has waned somewhat. The four years of being a blogger have seen me experiment with different platforms (the first posts were done at Google’s Blogger.com site) but then I found WordPress and even though I have on a few occasions left the comfort of it, I have always returned. Looking at the numbers behind the site itself, I have accomplished quite a bit over the four years that I have been committed to building the Krispy … Read more

Big Data for the Little Guy

The turning of the calendar to a new year has had me thinking long and hard about the direction of Krispy’s Bytes.  Within the world of Technology there are 3 core areas that always seem to get my attention: Open Source (Linux and GNU Software) Big Data Risk Management So as I sat back over the past few weeks and looked to what Krispy’s Bytes would become in 2015 I thought…why not focus on these three topics exclusively (with the addition of adding in the wonders of This Day in Tech History). I really want to focus on the low or no budget concept of dealing with technology challenges because having been a Small Business Owner myself…I know how tough it is to actually stretch a dollar. The Primary focus over the next several weeks will be to use a recently decommissioned computer to become a full fledged Big Data Machine, using nothing but free and open source tools.  I will be doing this for practical purposes and documenting the successes and failures as I go along. One thing that … Read more

This Day in Tech History and Other Coming Features

Rather than looking today at what has happened I am actually going to start compiling a full list of the 365 Days of Historical Goodness that make my favorite topics tick.  Yes that is right, This Day in Tech History is going to be a regular compiling of little Bytes of Info that you will be available on its own page here at Krispy’s Bytes. I am also going to bring back a feature that the original Krispy’s Rants had many moons ago and that was a compilation of some Krispyfications of the Weekly News in Tech.  This will be a Friday morning endeavor with a focus on the top news for the week in some relatively broad categories.  First feature coming this Friday. I am also running through a couple of other ideas for this brain fart that is my morning cathartic endeavor, stay tuned for shorter posts…but in all likelihood there will be more than one per day as things pop into my head, I am going to attempt to dive into building new features. Cheers, Krispy

Time for Changes

This past week has been vastly different for me thanks to everyone from around the globe who have taken time out of their day to read my posts, follow me on twitter and look to the links that I connect you to in my posts.  The image below is something that is becoming wildly fun to witness.  I built it by simply going to www.wordle.netand letting it scan the blog…pretty interesting…go try it!
