What a weekend this has been. I was asked to solve a technical issue with a colleague’s laptop and despite being able to recover the 90 GB of personal infornation off the drive (thanks to an Ubuntu Live CD) the darn thing won’t stay turned on long enough to install Windows (omen maybe?).
On the site refresh front though…movement is slow as the new architecture that I decided to move to is proving to be extra frustrating.
It has been a great experience though and the end result is going to be well worth the effort.
I played around for about 10 minutes with the early Alpha release of Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin in a Virtual Machine. I have to say that the move to not fight the 700 MB size so that it could fit onto a CD is actually a good thing. I am hoping that there becomes an enhanced setup that comes preconfigured with the extras that we all need to fiddle around with.
I especially like the new HUD feature that integrates with the Unity desktop…smart move and even in Alpha works much better than any feature I found on the Windows 8 Developers Release. Ubuntu 12.04 is going to be an LTS Release but will be supported for 5 years instead of the typical 3 that has been the case in the past.
I must say, the new Bluetooth Keyboard that I got for my iPad, has taken a little while to get used to and in doing a post in iOS I have lost my Auto Spell Check so I apologize in advance for any TypeO’s but this little tool that I picked up proves that iOS can function as a potential laptop replacement (the case that came with the keyboard leaves a little to be desired though but that is not the end of the world.
Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone…GO GIANTS!!!
