The wonder of living in a Free and Democratic Society means that the opinions from everyone can be heard. Do you have to agree with them all? NO! Do you have to support every nut bar idea? NO! Is there something to be learned by looking at this gathering and the building of a grass roots democracy? YES Damn Straight there is!
Now Freedom is never Free and in looking for the image above I found a lot of snapshots of a lot of catchy slogans like “We are the 99%”, “Death to Capitalism”, “Money Hungry Facists are Dead Inside”. But I keep coming back to Goethe’s quote “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who believe they are free”. Now I see this statement as a bitter irony of a world that really has chosen to let their destiny get out of their own control. While I do agree that the voices of the “99% have gone unheard” and that the shrinking and disintegration of the Middle Class is something that is damaging to the spirit and the will…WE DID IT TO OURSELVES!
I read through several blogs and sites to prepare for this post and I can honestly sit here with every confidence that while it is time that our voices were heard…it took far too long. WE let the bail outs of big banks happen! We forced our governments to the brink of bankruptcy! WE LET THIS HAPPEN!
Now to take a step back to “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who believe they are free” we need to remember that looking to the past is important. History unrecalled is doomed to be repeated but when looking for inspiration do we need to look all the way back to the latter part of the 18th century? Now Goethe was a true Renaissance man who dabled in Politics, Science and Art but I think a more poinent quote by him would be “Everything in the world can be endured accept continued prosperity”.
I do support the concept of what is being done with the Occupy Wall Street and the expansion across the continent and for a short time I think we can expect to see some changes come forth but with the demands being placed on the table. Some I feel are real, others unfortunately I think that they are imagined or are just not understood. For all those who stand on the streets complaining about the cost of Education…one thing that seems to be forgotten is that just because you left school with a piece of paper…Learning Time IS NOT OVER and the investment you make in yourself is the most important thing you can do.
For those who have not seen the Declaration of the Occupation of Wall Street document by the New York City General Assembly well I really suggest take the time, if you are reading this then take some time TODAY and educate yourself. If you are reading this you have access to the greatest information resource that Man has ever known…leverage it and make the change first in you before you head out to the streets and expect some one else to spoon feed you success.
Declaration of the Occupation of New York City
This document was accepted by the NYC General Assembly on september 29, 2011
As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.
As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *
To the people of the world,
We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.
Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.
To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.
Join us and make your voices heard!

Well, I have tried to remain focused on the Technology but when they speak of Freedom then I have to speak up. We have it…we just don’t excersize it. Apathy and Protests are not the only answer.
Take control of first your own destiny and then Affect Change! I get a kick out of a couple of the demands that are really counter intuitive like the foreclosure of homes and the outsource labor. They kind of feed into one another. We continue to go out and build bigger and bigger homes as our families get smaller and smaller but then to afford the new home we demand bigger and bigger salaries…this drives the cost of all products up which in turn drives up the demand to find a cheaper alternative to produce them and then we see outsourcing.
WE THE PEOPLE need to focus on living with our own means. DO FOR YOURSELF! A hand up…absolutely I will be the first in line but a hand out to anyone…nope not gonna happen…not from this guy. WHAT I HAVE I WORKED HARD TO ACHIEVE…I struggled I was challenged but I kept my focus and now can reap the benefits…I have no desire to live in an even more Socialist State.
That is it for me today…political rants are draining…I think I will stick with Technology…although if you would like to see more of this kind of post…leave a comment, reach out on the Contact Me Page or hey…just keep coming back. I really do appreciate every single visit.
