Geeking Out with Browsers

For most of us, the Web Browser is nothing more than a utility to check our Facebook, browse websites, even check our email and connect with friends and family. In the nearly 20 years that I have actively been involved with this great big world that is the Interwebz I have seen more than my fair share of browsers come and go.  The past few years has seen me tied pretty tightly with Google Chrome, both as a browser on all computers that I work with and as the Operating System of my rock solid little Chromebook. To give a bit of a run down, there are several “common” browsers out there: Internet Explorer – IE When it comes to the most commonly used web browser, look no further than the venerable Internet Explorer from Microsoft.  Directly tied to their Windows Operating System, IE has been used by most who head out to the Internet in search of deals, information or love (a bit of a throw back to Valentines day on Sunday). Back in 2003, Internet Explorer had an … Read more

If I Had a Million Dollars – Part 2

After last week, my starting balance of $1,000,000 had been whittled down to  $895,897.00 with the purchase of what can only be described as a set of wheels that would define the personality that I think that I have.  But now today it is about getting my true geek on.  The Information Superhighway has lots of Tech, Gear and Gadgets that I would love to have but because I am a cheap bastard, I just look, wish and dream…and that is what these posts are all about…the Dream and the Wants. When it comes to the latest Techie Gear, I am still a man of relatively simple tastes but there are several interesting items that with my new found virtual wealth I would definitely grab.  I love my Nexus 4 so the next logical progression for a new phone would be the latest upgrade to the Nexus 6 but I am torn between staying true to the Nexus brand or returning to my one true Mobile Love…Motorola.  The debate in my own head rages on and on…but at the end of … Read more

Confessions of a Geek Dad – Infographic of the Week

I proudly take full ownership of my status as a Geek…but more importantly that of a Geek Dad.  With the end of my first 2 weeks without my little kiddo (ok she is not so little anymore) and the start of my next full two weeks approaching fast I figured that I would head out onto the web to find some information about just how cool it is to be a Geek Dad…I was surprised to find a ton of information on the subject…and beyond that…a really cool Infographic or two. When it comes to being a Geek Dad and building upon the lessons that I have learned (many of them through trial and error and countless 1000’s of dollars lost to “experiments”) I can only hope that my own quest for connection and understanding of the tech in my life does spill over to the things that my daughter will do with her life. When it comes to the here and the now…I am always impressed with just how fast my little wonder kid picks up on technology and … Read more

Infographic of the Week – Hacking Your Life

For those of you who read the posts, meanderings and rants that I put up here almost every day you know that I am going through a bit of a personal transformation.  Hacking my old life if you will.  One of the big changes that I recently made was starting a self imposed 2 week no Google challenge and that included the removal of Android from my Smartphone and replacing it with Ubuntu Phone.  While I may be “hacking” my own life…we are all vulnerable to someone else taking over our lives…and it all starts with the smart phone we carry around everywhere with us!  This weeks Infographic comes from NQMobile a Mobile Security company. New Content Coming

Usually on Friday’s I will dive into the wonderful world of Free Apps but I thought that I would share a new concept coming to Krispy’s Bytes.  The transition from being a Technical IT Sales Specialist into the slower paced and far more rewarding world of Automotive Customer Service has left me with a lot of time to think about what I want this site to become. Don’t get me wrong…I love Technology and will never stray far from that core concept but over the past few years I have dreamed of getting into some interesting “Maker” projects as can be found over at and with me moving into my own place and not having anyone but myself to tell me I can or can’t do something…I figured what a perfect way to showcase my assumed mad skills as a designer/builder of functional stuff for my new place. You see, first and foremost I am a cheap bastard at heart so this site has always appealed to me because it empowers people to not only repurpose existing “junk” into … Read more

Sometimes being the Resident Geek has its Disadvantages

I feel like I was on a 4 day bender this morning and all because I am a Geek.  There was no Boiler Makers or Jaagermeisters involved just an intensive rehab of not one but two Windows Computers that were acting up on family members and friends of friends. For those who follow me on Google+ or Facebook you will know that I have an interesting “fetish” for the T-shirt of the day and while I have held off on posting this one…I think the timing is right to have it show up here.  The problem is, as much as I enjoy the tinkering and fiddling with computers is a real enjoyment for me…I have really come to the conclusion that my better judgement needs to take over and call it quits so that I do not end up putting in a 21 hour day…yes that is right it was 3:30 AM before I packed it in as I was nodding off at my desk. Both situations were a matter of simple re-installing Windows and as much as it always … Read more
