Happy Birthday to Krispy's Rants/i am krispy

Four years ago this week I ventured forth and started to put the thoughts, rants and meanderings out there for the world to see.  4 years ago I really didn’t think that anyone at any point would give this attempt at connecting a second glance but through the process I have seen this site flourish and at times become a realization of a dream of mine. Writing is not something that comes easy, nor does the discipline of committing the time to doing it right.  The past few months have been a challenge for me both physically and emotionally and my commitment as Wordsmith has waned somewhat. The four years of being a blogger have seen me experiment with different platforms (the first posts were done at Google’s site) but then I found WordPress and even though I have on a few occasions left the comfort of it, I have always returned. Looking at the numbers behind the site itself, I have accomplished quite a bit over the four years that I have been committed to building the Krispy … Read more

A Dad's Renewed Dedication

There are few things in this life that are truly unconditional but one of those things that are, are the love of a Father for his Child. 15 Years ago today I became a very lucky man when I heard the first tender cries from my beautiful Daughter.  I will never forget the first time I held her in my arms and when she opened her eyes, I could tell that she was meant to be my little girl (FOREVER).  The two of us share a very special bond, one that goes beyond Father and Daughter…we are like two peas cast from the same pod…many years apart. She is my little Geek 2.0 and I am so proud of everything that she does. I have put her through a lot over the years…10 moves in 15 years is a lot for anyone but for the most part, the moves were always to bring about positive change…at least I hope so. Her strength of character is something that inspires me to be the best that I can be…to never stop trying to improve and to be … Read more

1972 Was 42 Years Ago…

Ok so as I sit here contemplating the 42 years of life that I have had the distinct pleasure to experience I got thinking about that year that I was born.  1972…I don’t remember, probably because for 7 months of it I was living in a dark, cramped womb but hey that is splitting hairs.  I figured I would take a look back at 1972 the year and get a handle on what made it a good year (if not great because after all…it was the year I was born). I figured I would visit the Wikipedia page for that year and take a closer look at the things that made 1972 a great year (besides July 12 being the day that I came along: January 4 – The first scientific hand-held calculator (HP-35) is introduced (price $395). January 5 – U.S. President Richard Nixon orders the development of a space shuttle program. January 24 – Japanese soldier Shoichi Yokoi is discovered in Guam; he had spent 28 years in the jungle. January 30 – Bloody Sunday: The British Army kills 14 unarmed nationalist civil rights marchers in Derry, Northern Ireland. February 3 – February 13 – The 1972 Winter … Read more

Happy Birthday to the True North Strong and Free

I live in the greatest country in the world.  Sure I will complain about the weather (like how damn hot and muggy it has been this week and how bitterly cold the winter is) but all in all, I consider myself to be very fortunate enough to have one the genetic lottery and been born here.  Canada has abundant Natural Resources, solid Education and yes I have to say it for my friends to the South – FREE HEALTH CARE!  Today marks the 147th year that we have existed as a country and every day I can honestly say that I am proud to be Canadian! I thought that I would take an opportunity to list some of the historical facts that illustrate Canada’s Great Moments in History (as borrowed from Canadian History For Dummies Cheat Sheet 30,000–10,000 BC Prehistoric hunters cross over into Canada from Asia circa 1000 AD Leif Ericsson leads a Viking expedition to the New World 1451 The Iroquois Confederacy is formed 1497 John Cabot reaches Newfoundland (or perhaps Cape Breton) 1534 Jacques Cartier first explores the … Read more
