The Future of Open Source 2013

The future is happening all around us.  It is evolving in front of us and there are always opportunities to help shape that future.  The 2013 Future of Open Source Survey sponsored by Black Duck, Forrester, North Bridge, Red Hat Linux, 451 Research, Pentaho, SUSE Linux, OpenLogix and a host of other truly great ambassadors to the Open Source Cause is now open until March 28.

This is the 7th Annual Survey of this type and I have been following the results for the entire time.  Last years highlights:

  • Open Source Deployment is approaching 75%
  • 50% increase in OSS Spending from 2013-2017
  • Top barriers include – unfamiliar with OSS Solutions, lack of internal tech skills, lack of commercial support
  • OSS Cloud and Mobile Products are biggest winners

The full results slide show is available below:

Chris J Powell
