The power of ARM Processing in a Laptop – Worth it??

One may not typically equate the “Power” of a Mobile Chipset with something that can sustain full computing in a Laptop but I caught wind of a newly minted $149 dollar 13″ Laptop from THD.  Interesting to note this is considered to be a Smart Notebook and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The image above actually places a Macbook Air beside this “Clone” and in all honesty, beyond the Apple Logo on the back…there is very little that would not say that the device on the left is not a Macbook Air except for a price tag that is 1/10th the cost.

So what does one get with an investment of $149?

  • 13″ 1366×768 screen
  • Single Core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A8 Processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8 GB Storage

Based on those stats…is it a good investment…probably not due to the limitations in storage but as our mobile computing becomes more and more disposable…but there is an Atom Version that is already capable of running Windows 8.   Check out the video:

Short and sweet today as I pack up and prepare to relocate…yes the Krispy Family is moving next week and this weekend is the beginning of the full transition.  Big changes but with a little luck…there will be no interruption in the daily posts (I am now on a roll of 187 continuous posts so I hope not to miss any more for the entire year).

Cheers,
