What is Impossible in the Age of Infinite Possiblities?

Over at Lifehacker blogger Adam Dachis started his most recent post with one of my favorite Mohamed Ali quotes ” Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it.  Impossible is not a fact.  It’s an Opinion.  Impossible is not a declaration.  It’s a dare.  Impossible is potential.  Impossible is temporary.  Impossible is nothing.”

There are few sports figures today that had the entire world at their feet like Mohamed Ali did during his nearly 20 year boxing career.  For each of us looking at his profound statement about the impossible should be a glimpse into the mind of a man that was far before his time.

To me there are many things that seem impossible today that I am sure through hard work, timing and determination will become a reality for me and my family.  Information Technology departments should look to even just a portion of this statement and use it as their personal mission statement:

Impossible is not a fact.  It’s an Opinion.

The world is truly at a cross roads right now.  The Technology Storm continues to brew all around us and where that storm will make its next land fall is really hard to tell.  When it does, history tells us that change is the one thing that will remain constant so roll with that change, adapt to that change and prepare for that change…that is the only way to survive the storm.

I have been struggling with the fact that the CEO of the company that I work for looked into my eyes on Friday and set an expectation of $1,000,000 in Sales on me for our next Fiscal Year.  That is a daunting task as it is almost double what I have done as an average for the past 3 years but then I re-read this quote that had fallen into a deep recess of my memory and thought…ok, how do I get there.

The plan is starting to formulate, I have two months left to close strong on this year…but then it is right at it to achieve a goal that very few have been able to achieve in the past…Impossible…today yes but as Ali said “Impossible is Temporary.  Impossible is NOTHING!”

What is your Impossible?  How will you make it Temporary? Take the Universe’s Dare and turn that Impossible into Possible.  It starts TODAY!

Cheers,

Chris J Powell

    Hi Chris,
That is quite a challenge! It takes some amount of courage to look ‘impossible’ in the face and set action in place to move through it.
Thanks for the reminder that all things are possible, visioning is important, and the strength to act on new ideas and frameworks is within each of us.
    Best regards,
    Donna

I haven’t heard that quote from Mohamed Ali before. I’ll save that one. Please keep us posted on your $1 Million Goal.
