I don’t know, I am starting to think that all these Social Networks are starting to blend together and fell a little bit “copy and paste”. I love that I have HootSuite to manage my big three accounts but that still leaves about 20 others that I try to keep updated but the reality is…there are just to many out there. To top thing off, Microsoft has rolled out their own Social Networking Site So.cl.
So why would Microsoft start a Social Network? I really don’t have any idea, but then why is it that the most socially awkward friend always showed up at the parties you went to when you were a student? And amazingly enough students are who the original Beta was rolled out to. Now it has opened to the general public but I don’t think that I will be able to get really into this new way of connecting…it just feels BEEN THERE DONE THAT and there is not enough of a reason to dig through the settings and add apps and do all the things to make it a viable Social Network.
My initial Take is that this site is what would happen if Facebook and Google+ had a child, not the happy go lucky wonderful child that 12 1/2 half years ago blessed our family…no, the collicky, screaming, always sick child that makes your life like a slow moving Train Wreck for years.
I will give it a fair shake but I just don’t see the point. Why is it that EVERY Tech Company thinks that they can jump on board with Social just because there is no barrier to entry? STICK WITH THE ENTERPRISE…no ONE CARES MICRO$OFT!
On another side note I did stumble upon an interesting new way of making new connections, extending my reach in the Social Media Realm and focusing on Expand, Engage, Evaluate. There is nothing worse with Social Media than shooting out a Tweet or a Post and never really knowing if someone reads what you have put out there. Sure there are the Likes, Shares, Plusses and Retweets but did the message you put out there engage ANYONE who did like what you have to say but chooses not to play the “Like Game”.
This is now my third day on the Empire Avenue Site and I must say…the concept at first got me a little ticked off and then I started messing around and engaging new people became fun. The About Us section of the site claims:
Empire Avenue’s comprehensive social media suite is powered by the Social Stock Market, where you use your virtual currency to expand your social media audience. Your virtual investors will share in your success as they earn valuable currency through your online activity and engagement.
Use Empire Avenue’s powerful Missions to drive traffic and engagement to your online content and social profiles, and to gain relevant new fans, followers and subscribers on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and other networks.
Finally, use the built-in Network Scores and other metrics to gauge the effectiveness and progress of your social media efforts, to pinpoint areas of improvement and to keep an eye on your network growth.
With all of these tools in one place, Empire Avenue is the social media rocket fuel you’ve been looking for.
Now Three Days is not enough to truly get to know whether or not the connections I am making here are any more real then the Twitter Sharing Experiment that I did a few months back but the trading of Social Media Shares within the community is kind of fun. In the 3 days (well 2 1/2 days actually) my share price has went from the starting point of 10E to a current price of 35.15E (with E being the Empire Avenue currency).
So what can you do with this currency…well lets save a little bit for the imagination or even better yet, head over to the site an see how quickly you can engage new followers…I have added 25 Twitter Follower (who are actively engaged), 5 New Facebook Friends and a few extra connections to my LinkedIn Roster.
In a final Social Media Monday blast…I came across another Social Profile Sharing Site over at FullyFollow.Me that lets you very quickly provide direct connect access to your top Social Profiles (and no So.cl is not one of them).
Well that is it…have a great day.
