What a day yesterday was. I had an amazing afternoon kicking back and visiting some old haunts with my daughter. We had a great lunch at a “fancy schmancy” restaurant downtown and wandered around the downtown core visiting some stores we had not been to in what seems like forever. All was right with the world.
We even headed off to the mall to do some window shopping when I noticed a great deal on a Samsung Galaxy Vibrant at the Virgin Mobile Booth. Some of you may remember my failed attempt at the Ice Cream Sandwich updated on my Galaxy S II back in January. Well I got thinking about it and $199 for a phone that is normally $4-500 is a pretty good deal and the i9000 is basically the exact same phone I had before. Not one to make substantial purchases without consulting my wife, we left the mall and went home and in her infinite wisdom did a quick kijiji search and found someone who had already updated the same phone to ICS for $195…I sent a message and offered $150 (a great deal right – no work needed, no risk for me making a mistake and updated the wrong ROM on the phone a win win).
Not so much.
Got to the dudes house, he showed me the phone working but said he wanted to wipe his personal data…that is fair.
I watched him put it into recovery mode, hit the Wipe and then presto it was rebooting.
Problem was, it never fully booted. I left the house, with my new toy thinking…it is a first boot…it took a while when I put any custom ROM on my other phones and didn’t think much of it.
We had some running around to do so after about 2 hours we got home and I headed to the basement to make the transfer of the SIM card and SD Card only to find the screen blank and unresponsive to the Power Button??? Tried the Recovery Mode – Nothing. Tried the Download Mode – Nothing. Tried the Jig I made for the first bricked phone…nothing.
OK don’t panic…the battery could be dead. Plugged it in to the wall charger for 2 hours…nothing. Pulled the battery over night…still nothing this morning.
Frustration does not begin to describe what I am going through right now but the wonders of wonders never cease and there may still be hope (and if it works for one device…I might just be able to get the other one up and running too).
Wish me luck.
