It doesn’t matter what role you play or what industry that you are in, there are those moments that you can see something on the horizon…it may be hazy, it may be out of focus…but you know that something is coming. Our daily lives have us riding along the Information Super Highway at ever faster speeds and that hazy object becomes clear for only a fleeting second.
There is a choice that can be made when we first notice that hazy object way off in the distance. We can choose to ignore it, we can choose to bring that object into focus or we can just wait for it to come along and let it sweep us up.
I have decided that I am going to focus on those objects on the horizon. I am just not happy if I wait for someone else to take the lead and tell me what Change will bring. The big picture is not always full of Sunshine and Lollipops but despite many people telling me that it is a bad thing to try to balance the future with the present…I think that living exclusively in the moment has had me pulled in far too many directions…with no real option for me to choose and have a say in that direction.
Many industries out there have suffered in the past 5 years because there was a failure to look to that horizon. Companies that chose to act upon those hazy objects and act as a catalyst for change have been wildly successful despite having some of the worst economic outlooks in 50 years. I for one want to be on the cutting edge. Understanding as much of the changing world that we live in as possible.
I may work as a Sales Professional, but that no longer will define me. I am an Agent of Change. My focus will be on the horizon, like a crow on the mast of a Viking Longboat I will be looking for a land! My strength as a Sales Professional has always been my Customer Service and Solution Selling skills, even my LinkedIn Profile attests to that with more than 1/3 of my connection endorsements coming in areas like Solution Selling, IT Service Management and Process Improvement.
What will tomorrow look like…I don’t know but I am not going to wait for it to arrive to start shaping what it will be for me, and for those that I interact with.
I don’t pretend to know all the answers…but I will never stop looking for them! I leave you with some quotes about paying it forward…I firmly believe that it is the little things that we do today, that will shape tomorrow. Make every moment count!
