The Battle for my Cellular Heart and Mind Goes To….

…the Samsung Galaxy S Facinate 3G+.

There was great debate about paying out my contract and switching providers.  But at the end of the day the plan that I have keeps me happy…the Motorola Milestone had served its purpose and had introduced me to the goodness that is the Android Platform but with the firmware issues that I experienced…it was just not worth the ongoing headaches that it was causing.

The process was much less painful than what my local Telus Stores (yes I went to two of them for assistance last weekend) had led me to believe but thanks to one of the newest Info-Techers (who just so happens to be the one who sold person the Milestone) pointed me back to whence I came and off to Future Shop I went to see what they could do for me.

When I say less painful…it was nearly painless, not only did I get to walk out of the store with a beautiful new phone but the only money I spent was on some “Armor Plating” for my phone…I actually made money by getting a $75 dollar gift card.  Now there was money traded in the fact that I will have some charges on my bill next month but hey…I no longer need the Milestone and I have a “Super Phone” to boot!

But enough about the great customer service experience that I had at the Future Shop on Wellington here in London, ON.  The Samsung Galaxy S Facinate 3G+ sports some pretty amazing stats:

  • Android 2.2 OS
  • 118g Handset Weight
  • 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm Handset Size
  • 4″ WVGA Display Size SUPER AMOLED
  • 5 Mega Pixel Camera
  • 16 G User Memory
  • Expandable Memory (Up to 32 GB)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, Hummingbird chipset

Now I had tossed the idea of moving fully upstream to the 4G version of this phone but there were only minor performance gains that I could see and well being the cheap person that I am (and going into the process thinking that I was going to have to shell out the full bill on the spot like Telus had told me) I am more than happy with this decision (at least for today).

With the upcoming release of some amazing new phones I will likely be left with some processor envy within weeks of owning my new Facinate but I love the speaker on it, the integrated FM Radio is pretty cool and the screen is absolutely gorgeous (it is amazing what 0.3 ” of screen real estate can do for changing the smart phone experience).

Well that is it for me today…if the weather holds out there might be a bit of an family adventure in store today.

Cheers and have a great Weekend.
