Vizio now making Tablets

Having been in the business of budget-friendly HDTVs for some time now the American company has now entered into the crowded Android market but with a distinct advantage…Price!

This nice and neat 8″ Tablet called the VTab in my opinion is just what the market is looking for!  It will be interesting to see where Vizio’s biggest retail customer Wal-Mart will feature this product though – will it be front and center under glass like the iPad or out and open like the Playbook???

With the iPad being the benchmark that all Tablets are measured by, the Vizio VTab comes in at a full $200 less than many of its competitors that flirt with the $500 price point.  I find it interesting that it is a full Android Tab but Vizio has baked some interesting features into it including a built in IR Blaster for it to become a Universal Remote!!!

Now with this device it puts it into direct competition with two product categories, on one hand we have the Tablet “PC” market that has by all accounts exploded and propelled companies like Apple into the stratosphere and at the same time contributed to the decline of others like RIM with its failed 7″ Playbook. On the other hand the high end Universal Remote market that is dominated by Logitech and Harmony had better look out as their prices are in many cases higher than the VTab as it stands today!

"Manjaro-Linux-300x119"

The VTab has an MSRP of $329 but already there are online retailers promoting this bit of technology wonder for just $299 and that might just set the standard for all future players that will support the Android Platform!

Now these specs do not make it leap off the page as an iPad killer but they are a pretty solid competitor to make a play as a Media Room / Living Room Companion, I know that I am glued to my tablet as the wife watches yet another obscure Reality TV Show!

I look forward to the opportunity of getting my hands on one even at the retail store and giving it a quick run.  For me the best designed Tablet out there now is the HP TouchPad followed by the iPad so I want an underdog to come along and get it right!

Cheers and Happy Friday,
